Educational, Welfare & Research Foundation Malaysia (EWRF) is a non-profit voluntary community-service based organization. It was founded in 1978 and has 1200 members throughout the country with 12 branches. Drawing its membership from a wide array of professions, communities, skills and interest groups, the EWRF has over the years actively implemented educational programmes and activities for the betterment of the disadvantaged members of the community. In its principal role as a vehicle to initiate socio-economic change and development, EWRF draws its strength from the communities' manpower resources and a tradition of selfless service.
The aim of the Foundation is to promote education as the key for advancement. The Foundation also seeks to generate an awareness of self-worth, discipline and greater participation in the social and economic development of the nation. Towards this end, the Foundation aims at fulfilling the following objectives:-
1. To raise awareness in civil, educational, economic and social issues,
2. To increase the opportunities to succeed in education.
3. To assist in the development of business entrepreneurship and support career development.
4. To undertake charitable activities that would improve the welfare of the less privileged.
5. To conduct research on issues that would contribute towards the well being of Malaysian Society
Various projects have been identified, with the following having been carried out so far:
1. Running of kindergartens
2. Project ABC (Acknowledge a Bright Child)
3. Motivation camps for students of Tamil Schools, their teachers and parents
4. Subsidized tuition classes for Tamil School pupils
5. Study loans and scholarships
6. Running of hostels for Secondary School pupils
7. Welfare aid
8. Providing aid to Tamil Schools
The above-mentioned is EWRF’s latest project to bring a change to some of the under-privileged in our community

ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME 2009

The Chamber’s Scholarship and Welfare Committee is undertaking and supporting English Enrichment Programme as an ongoing project in the long term to increase the proficiency level of English Language in Tamil Schools and to build self-confidence among students.
This project started off with the involvement of 2 schools in 2005, 10 schools in 2006 and have increased to 15 schools in 2007 and 2008. This programme assessed students in the vocabulary, pronunciations, fluency, tone or inclination, sentences and comprehension.
The Chamber has received a very positive feedback and results from the project coordinators with fruitful progress from the students. In general the students have improved significantly in vocabulary, pronunciations and fluency. A report on the English Enrichment Programme is attached.
With heart full satisfaction, the Chamber has decided to contribute annually towards this noble and worthy project which will showcase the caring nature of the Indian business community for the well being of our future generation.

We are pleased to inform that the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) will be organising the “1 Malaysia Economic Conference” on 8th and 9th February 2010 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), Kuala Lumpur City Centre. Y.A.B. Dato’ Sri Mohd. Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia has confirmed acceptance of our invitation to officiate the opening of the conference.
The conference themed “1 Malaysia - New Economic Model” is aimed to bring together experts, entrepreneurs and national legislators to deliberate on the prospects and challenges of Malaysia’s transformation to become a high income economy as well as to solicit feedback and recommendations in shaping and implementing the 1 Malaysia’s New Economic Model.
This conference will be conducted in English and is expected to be attended by 1,000 participants. The registration fee for members of ACCCIM Constituent Chambers is RM300 per person and for non-members at RM500 per person.

KLSICCI TRADE MISSION TO COLOMBO, SRI LANKA AND TRIVANDRUM, INDIA
14TH –21ST FEBRUARY 2010 |
Please be informed that the Kuala Lumpur & Selangor Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KLSICCI) is organizing a trade delegation to Colombo, Sri Lanka and Trivandrum, India from 14th to 21st February 2010. We expect about 20 businessmen from the Chamber to participate in this trade mission, which is also supported by the Sri Lankan Embassy in Kuala Lumpur and the Indian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur.
The objective of the mission is for trade promotion , explore, develop business potentials and joint ventures particularly in trades such as:
- Food and beverage/Spices
- Tourism,
- Small-scale industries/ Cottage industries
- Manufacturing,
- Information technology,
- Engineering,
- Training,
- Automobile components
- Furniture.
The mission will comprise programmes such as seminars, roundtable meetings, business networking sessions/fellowships and briefing by relevant authorities. The Trade Mission Itinerary will be finalized and meetings will be organized as per the trade interest and response from members. A tentative programme is attached.
The package cost for this delegation is estimated to be around RM3,000.00 (Accommodation Twin Sharing Basis).
- Package cost would include airfare, airport taxes/ surcharges/ hotel accommodation, breakfast & return airport transfer; (Additional payment will be charged for single room occupancy).
Members are required to make the necessary arrangements; i.e. visa and other travel documents on their own.
Please note that MATRADE will be able to reimburse 50% of the expenses incurred such as air–fare, accommodation, participation fees etc under the Market Development Grant (MDG) and Services Export Fund Grant (SEF) provided your company complies with their requirements. INDIA INTERNATIONAL LEATHER FAIR (IILF) 2010 |
Please be informed that the India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO) is organizing Indian International Leather Fair as follows:-
Date : 31st January – 3rd February 2010
Venue : Chennai Trade Centre, Tamil Nadu (India)
The above fair (silver jubilee edition) which will showcase all items relating to the leather industry including leather accessories and goods. The products on display will range from Finished leather, Footwear, Garments, Fashion Accessories, Travel-ware, Portfolios, Belts Gloves, Saddlery and harness to Ancillary and Auxiliary, Chemicals, Machinery etc.
IILF 2010 will be an ideal platform to source, develop business relations and exchange views encompassing the entire global leather industry. The leading manufacturers, suppliers and agencies of the industry from all around the world will assemble under one common roof to offer a wide array of leather goods & accessories and related machinery. The visitor / buyer can establish long lasting business relationship with the domestic and global suppliers, manufacturer and agencies. Around 400 companies are participating including 122 from 25 foreign countries viz. Brazil, China, Italy, USA, UK, Saudi Arab etc.
The Council for Leather Exports (CLE) is offering international airfare and local hospitality (hotel stay etc.) for potential buyers/importers of these products from Malaysia, who is genuinely interested in doing business with India. The complimentary hospitality package is restricted to one senior Executive per company. In case of buyers who had visited any of the last three IILFs, the hospitality package is restricted only to hotel accommodation and local hospitality (without airfare)

The trade value between Malaysia and Brunei for the year 2008 is valued at RM1.8 billion. In addition, Malaysia is the third largest exporter to Brunei after United Kingdom (UK) and Singapore.

More than 50,000 visitors are expected from Brunei, East Malaysia and Kalimantan.
Malaysia Showcase 2010 objectives are as below:-
1. To expose and promote Malaysian tourism industry to the market of Brunei and Borneo,
2. To attract investors from Brunei into the Malaysian investment sector,
3. In promoting Malaysia as one of the internationally recognize hub for education centre for higher learning,
4. Building closer trading relations between the two countries,
5. Providing business opportunity for the Malaysia companies and entrepreneurs to commercialize their products and services into the Brunei market,
6. In supporting the government to promote; “ Buy Malaysia Product” campaign Internationally,
7. To establish as the platform for the business network sharing between the Malaysia and Brunei entrepreneurs,
